Product Carbon Footprint

Systembolaget Direct Supplier

As a direct supplier to Systembolaget, you are responsible for initiating PCF data collection by reporting your own available data and enabling your supply chain to contribute theirs. This guide outlines the key datasets expected, how to prepare your organization and suppliers for reporting in CarbonCloud, and where to find resources and support throughout the process.

What's in it for you?

Benefits of being active with PCF

Reporting product-level emissions creates value—for your business, your customers, and the climate. It helps you meet growing buyer and regulatory expectations, reduce risks, and identify areas for improvement in your value chain. With transparent climate data, you can strengthen customer trust, stand out in tenders, and future-proof your business. Consumers are increasingly asking for this information—and we want to share it with them. By working together, we can make informed, sustainable choices and drive progress across the entire industry.

Reporting will be possible from April 2026

Our ambition is to reopen the system for data collection at the turn of March/April 2026.

Climate data as a factor in assortment ranking

We intend to introduce climate data as a factor in the ranking. We plan to present how this will work, to our direct suppliers,  in autumn 2026. The goal is for climate data to be used as one of several factors in Systembolaget’s ranking model. Before climate data is used in the ranking model, all suppliers will be given the opportunity to supplement and verify their data.

Product Carbon Footprint a part of our customer guidance

We are also planning to update our customer guidance to include the product’s climate footprint. When this can happen depends on when the process for ensuring data quality is automated and implemented. Well in advance, we will inform about the date and give all actors the opportunity to choose whether the reported value should be used, and to supplement the reported.

Your role and responsibility as a direct supplier

What your assignment is

As a direct supplier to Systembolaget, you play a key role in starting the data collection process. If you mainly import finished products, your own data contribution is most likely limited. Your main responsibility is to involve and support suppliers and engage them so share their activity data.

Starting the data collection process includes:

  • Preparing your own organization
  • Reporting your own data
  • Engaging your supply chain
  • Prepare next tier suppliers – e.g producers – to report their data

If you also produce products, you might be interested in the [section for producers].

Report your data

The rule of thumb for reporting PCF data is that each party should report its own data. If you mainly import finished products without processing them, your typical data contribution will revolve around general product information and transport routes if you are buying and booking freights.

Help suppliers prepare to report their data

Before inviting suppliers to contribute their data in the CarbonCloud platform, they might need time to gather data and find relevant data sources. You can help them succeed by:

  • Informing them early about required data
  • Communicate expectations and timelines
  • Guide them to the PCF web site and support them in the process
  • Show them how to get support by guiding them to support channels
  • Build capacity over time by continuous follow-ups

You can find relevant data points, allocation examples, and more under [Resources].

Relevant support channels are found under [Support].

When your suppliers are prepared to start reporting, the next step is to invite them to the CarbonCloud platform. This is how you get started [Getting started 2.3].

Getting started Swedish Direct Suppliers

How to get started

Below we have listed the data sets typically expected by your role. How to do it: Following a step-by-step approach, you identify key data sources to later on be able to explore practical methods for managing allocation and data conversion to ensure compatibility with the CarbonCloud platform. This will help you simplify and streamline calculations.

Your datasets as a direct supplier are typically:

Prepare your data for the CarbonCloud Platform

The CarbonCloud platform is a platform developed for different kinds of products, not only for the alcoholic beverage industry. This is the reason why some data needs to be converted, and some terminology needs further explanation.

Converting Volume units to kilograms

CarbonCloud uses kg as the functional unit of the product in mind, which for beverage products results in:

  • You need to have your batch size stated in kg to enter Ingredients in the CarbonCloud platform.
  • You need to have the net content of the product stated in kg to enter Packaging information in the CarbonCloud platform.
  • You need to have the final output of your product stated in kg to enter Energy use in the CarbonCloud platform.

To convert an amount stated in liter to the corresponding amount stated in kg you need to know the density of the product in mind.

Reporting and follow up

CarbonCloud food & beverage value chain data

With consistent, granular, and relevant secondary data as a starting point, CarbonCloud enables seamless integration of primary activity data across multitier value chains. With in-app invitations and PCF calculations, the CarbonCloud platform enables real supplier collaboration at scale through automated outreach and built in data validation. Always with methodological consistency between suppliers, and between secondary emission factors and primary data based PCFs.

Invitation

Your PCF process begins when you receive an invitation from CarbonCloud—on behalf of your customer—asking you to create an account. Once created, you can access the reporting platform and explore the ongoing PCF calculations for your products.

Adding data

Initially, you will see PCF values for your products based on secondary data. Depending on your position in the value chain, you add different types and levels of data. When you submit your primary data, automated modeling replaces the secondary data and recalculates the product’s climate footprint—for all parties in the value chain.

Extend the network and increase the accuracy of the PCF data

If applicable, involve your suppliers. Send them an automatic invitation to submit their climate footprints. The invitation process repeats for each new party, enabling broader and more supplier specific data contributions. As a result, statistical benchmark data is gradually replaced with primary activity data across more stages of the value chain. The network model ensures that downstream calculations build on upstream data.

Track supplier performance & increase data quality

The more parties in the product’s value chain participate, the higher the product’s data quality becomes. Your view updates automatically in real time, allowing you to track supplier performance and follow emission updates through a complete change log for each product.

Reporting deadlines

To ensure that emission reduction efforts and expanded data collection are captured, you can continuously update your emission values in the platform. The draft and publish functions ensure that only intentional updates move forward in the chain and make it clear when updates have been made. This allows all parties in the value chain to verify that the product’s PCF is based on current data when requested.

NOTE!

You retain full ownership of all activity data you submit. All automatic real time PCF updates across the value chain concern aggregated PCF results—not granular activity data—unless explicit permission is given. Read more here [Data Handling & Privacy]
