Take the next step towards the 2026 PCF Ranking Simulation
As we move into the next phase of the PCF process, we want to make sure you have full clarity on what’s happening, what it means for you, and how you can benefit from taking action in time.
Key updates
- The first pilot Quality Assurance Review of all reported PCF data is now underway. This marks an important milestone in preparing for the Ranking Simulation in autumn 2026.
- Actors with articles that pass the Quality Assurance will see how their primary data based PCF influences their ranking when the simulation begins in autumn 2026.
- If you have not yet reported primary data but want your article(s) included in the simulation, please submit reporting by 14 September to be part of the second round of Quality Assurance Review.
- Reporting can never harm your ranking. Reporting can never harm your ranking. In the simulation, we only use primary data based PCFs when they are lower than the corresponding secondary data value. If your reported primary data leads to a higher PCF than the default data, the default value is used instead. In other words, your ranking can only stay the same or improve by reporting — never worsen.
- There is no fixed minimum threshold for how much primary data must be reported. Instead, the share of primary data is evaluated as part of the Quality Assurance Review. For all articles that pass Quality Assurance (round 1 or 2), the reported data will replace the default value in the ranking simulation.
Why this phase takes time
We are intentionally working with longer lead times to ensure a thorough, consistent, and carefully controlled quality assurance process and framework. This is essential for building a ranking system that is reliable and beneficial for everyone involved over time.
